If you’re a music fan, chances are the boys from Rubber Bullet, have got your favourite sounds covered. With an unrivalled quantity of songs in the arsenal they have been gigging solidly in the Newcastle area for the past four years. They have held down a regular Thursday night gig at Hotel Delany since January 2001. They say they have never played the same show twice, keeping every performance unique, fresh and driving with a spontaneous energy.
Like many popular powerhouse bands of the past Rubber Bullet pride themselves on only being a three-piece and keeping it all totally live.
They have recently welcomed their new member, drummer, Peter Shafter. Shafter grew up in Melbourne, where before leaving for Newcastle he played in a popular St Kilda pub band, where he got the chance to jam with Aussie legends such as Ross Wilson, Paul Kelly and Southern Son Jack Jones. Previously in Newcastle he was the drummer to the popular ska band Rubix Cuba.
Bass player/vocalist Mark Wood was born in Liverpool England and returned there in the early nineties where he spent some time in a Beatles concept band in the role of John Lennon, with who his voice has an uncanny resemblance to.
Zane Penn on vocals and lead guitar has a wealth of experience also. He has been resident musician at the P’n’O resort on Heron Island, a lead member of the house band at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast. In 2000 he was a finalist in the Tamworth Songwriting competition and he has supported a string of top acts most notably being Mick Jagger on his 1990 solo tour.
Versatility is a must for today’s bands and Rubber Bullet are received equally well in both pubs and clubs.
Artists covered include The Beatles, Elvis, The Doors, Powderfinger and Greenday just to name a few. Rubber Bullet are also favourites on the function circuit.
