Six sensational weeks lead to this day, four Heats, two Semi Finals, and now, as Joey Tempest, lead singer of the 80s hair metal band Europe (who were truly The Beatles of their day…) famously sung: “It’s the final countdown”...
Twenty acts originally entered this prestigious competition, and then the twenty were whittled down to the final five who appeared at yesterday’s Grand Final. This day was always going to be a do or die affair, and each and every band competed like this battle was one to the death…

The Passport To Airlie Battle Of The Bands Competition has been one hell of an epic road trip, except with no instances of anyone saying “Are we there yet?” Yesterday was our second Semi Final, and five brilliant bands were fortunate enough to make it this far down the rock n’ roll road to Airlie Beach, rockin’ the Stag & Hunter in one hell of a stellar Semi Final.Read the full post

I’ve said it before, and I will say it again, time flies when you’re having fun, so that’s probably how we’ve already made it to the first Semi Final of the Passport To Airlie Battle Of The Bands Competition. After four fantastic and fast weeks, five of the ten winners came together in this first of two Semi Finals, and as they’d all done in respective Heats, gave it their all, rocked their hearts out, and rock the crowd’s world!Read the full post

Spring has sprung, the grass has riz, and the Stag is where the entertainment is!
For the fourth week in a row, the Stag & Hunter Hotel has been the gracious host to the Newcastle chapter of the Passport To Airlie Battle Of The Bands Competition, and what a competition it has been so far. Hard to believe though that not only is it already spring, but at the timing of writing, it’s already Heat Four of the comp! What is it they say about time flying when you’re having fun?... This Sunday, it was a sure sign that Spring had started, as there were five bands that put the Heat into Heat Four...

This Sunday may’ve been fight day because of Connor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, but after the bout came the battle, with that battle being Heat Three of the Passport To Airlie Battle Of The Bands Competition. Yesterday four acts stepped into the ring, and not one of them pulled any punches.Read the full post

With the Passport To Airlie Battle Of The Bands Competition now up to Heat Two, this event is definitely in full swing. Five bands took part in this Battle Of The Bands yesterday, and during this Battle, all five bands came out swinging (and it was soon apparent that “swing” was going to be an operative word...).Read the full post

Well, it’s hard to believe, but here we are again! It’s August in Newcastle, so that means it’s time for something special (and no, not just my birthday). I am of course talking about the Passport To Airlie Battle of the Bands Competition. With Newcastle being one of the hosts of this national comp since 2014, Passport To Airlie has become something of an institution for many many Novocastrian live music lovers. The comp has also given dozens of upcoming artists their time to shine by providing a platform (and a stage) for them to strut their stuff and showcase their musical talents in front of hundreds of music fans, all whilst competing for some truly fantastic prizes.
