‘Purple Rain’ is a four-piece rock/pop band from Newcastle with a big sound and a big presence. With a total of over 50 years of gigging experience (which works out to well over 500 shows between them), they know how to get a crowd going, and they’ll have you up dancing quicker than you can say ‘oh! I love this song!
PR has perfected a repertoire of both classic material and brand new hits that make them a versatile option for almost any occasion.
You’ll hear classics from Bryan Adams, Pat Benatar, Darryl Braithwaite, The Rolling Stones, Shania Twain, through to modern dance floor fillers from Bruno Mars, Marc Ronson, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, and Maroon 5.
When the occasion calls for it (as it so often does) they can hit you right between the eyes with face-melters from AC/DC, Foo Fighters, Queens of The Stoneage, Lenny Kravitz, Blink 182 and the Black Keys plus many more.
PR consists of Nicole Ashcroft on vocals, brothers Reece and Evan Doyle both on vocals as well as guitar and bass respectively, Lyle Goodman on drums and (when required) they play with backing tracks and samples.
Nicole Ashcroft is (by far!) the most attractive member of PR, but she is much more than just a pretty face! Over the last 10 years, Nicole has developed her big and powerful yet versatile voice to allow her to comfortably sing everything from country and jazz to rock, pop, disco, funk or soul. Whether it be whisper quite dinner music at a wedding, crooning with a jazz band or belting it out in front of a loud rock band, Nicole has it covered!
No stranger in the Newcastle original and cover band scene, Evan has toured nationally on the bass/vocals with Newcastle's own Blues/Alt -Rockers Cornstalk, as well as Darwin band VanderAa. Evan's philosophy to performance (and life in general) is simple: Good Gear, Played Well, On Time and In Tune!
Reece is a music teacher, but by night he lets his remaining hair down as a seasoned guitarist/vocalist who has gigged internationally in more genres and settings than he can remember. You may recognize him from various duos Money For Snuggles, or the Splinter Band. He has a habit of inciting sing-a- longs wherever he performs, thus creating fun for the punters and halving his workload!
Lyle Goodman has been drumming in the Newcastle music scene for 20 years. He's played in various original and cover acts such as Cornstalk, The Flat Earth Society, Sumo, Hey Baby and Money for Snuggles. Always keen to please, he will dribble out of either side of his mouth as requested....
