In Motion are an emerging alternative rock band from Newcastle, New South Wales. Formed early in 2014 as a creative outlet for their teenage angst, the three piece have worked on writing their own original material drawing inspiration from current day bands such as Kingswood and Royal Blood with early Soundgarden and Led Zep influences also coming through. By melding hook-filled melodies with hard and heavy beats, In Motion manage to inject this vast array of influences into their sound.
In the beginning, due to their tender ages, they gained experience where they could performing live at all age gigs and band comps with great success. In 2014 they came away winners of Hunter High School Rock Off which gave them the opportunity to support In Hearts Wake. In 2015 they spread their wings to Sydney and came away winners of Youth Rock (past winners include Silverchiar, Alex Lloyd & Hayley Warner).
2016 saw them take out the Battle of the Bands and the Passport to Airlie band comp crowns in Newcastle. They then travelled to Airlie Beach and won the national Passport to Airlie comp which secures them a spot on the main stage in 2017.
Since finally all coming of age, they’ve concentrated on playing live venues around Newcastle & Central Coast such as The Cambridge, Great Northern, Stag & Hunter, Lass O' Gowrie & Coast Hotels supporting acts such as Band of Skulls, British India, Lepers & Crooks and Rackett. Plus festival spots at Pigsty in July, Springfest II and Airlie Beach Music Festival.
March 2016 sees the release of the first single ‘My Kind of Woman’ off their EP. Recorded at Mainstreet Studios in Wollongong by Adam Jordan (Nick Oliviri - QOTSA, The Vanns, The Choirboys) and mastered by Tony ‘Jack the Bear’ Mantz (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Kisschasy, Something for Kate); the end result is a strong, riff-heavy sound that sits deep in the pockets of the rhythm section with a powerful vocal to match.
In Motion plan to continue to promote their new single and EP with gigs locally, in the Sydney market and beyond. New originals are in the works and they will head back into the studio in the near future to record their second single and EP.
